Lost at Sea- "Help!"
This article is about a 19-year-old Indonesia native named Aldi
Novel Adilang and his 49 days adrift at sea. He works as a fisherman and lamp
keeper at an isolated fish trap device called a Rompong. These trap are tiny
huts on top of a floating buoy. These Rompongs are held in place by a rope
attached to a cement block on the floor of the ocean. Due to extreme winds and
waves, the rope was weakened and ultimately destroyed. Aldi floated past many ships
until he was rescued near Guam. He would scream in Indonesian and bang on a
can, but no one would stop for him. Aldi credits his rescue to shouting “help”
in English instead of using his native tongue… So sad!
