China's Child Policy
There have been plans made within the Chinese government to
end their current birth restrictions. There was once a one-child limit on a
majority of Chinese couples. This “one-child policy” was changed in 2016 to
allowing two children per family. This change in decade-long restrictions is
due to the now aging population of China and a decrease in the national birth
rate. In order for the population of China to remain consistent or grow, the
birth rate would need to change to at least 2 children per woman. Although the
policy was changed to two children, not many couples decided to have more than
one child. The government is lifting this policy with hopes that more women
will have multiple children to maintain the population. Only time will tell if
their plans will work.
