Hanoi Pushes to End Dog Meat
This article is about the Vietnamese capital of Hanoi
requesting that its residents stop eating dog meat. There were three main
arguments made by the officials of this city to end this habit. The first
argument was that the consumption of dog meat is seen as uncivilized and
outdated to the majority of the rest of the world. If the city continued to
consume dog meat, their reputation would be seriously hurt. The second argument
was that citizens are exposing themselves to many diseases through dog meat,
such as rabies. The final argument made the stop the consumption of dogs was
that these animals were cruelly killed. Since the majority of dogs in Hanoi are
kept as pets, the city wants to appeal to the emotions of its people.
Unfortunately, this habit is deeply rooted in the Vietnamese way of life and
only time will tell if these arguments aid in the end of dog slaughtering for
food.
